So, four of my six Oscar predictions were correct … eh. I don’t think there were any surprises this year, as evidenced by the fact that most of the ceremony ran on mute all evening in my home.
In fact, the two categories I predicted incorrectly – best supporting actress and best director – were even less surprising than I thought they might be! Penelope Cruz was the favorite to win BSA, and Slumdog Millionaire was pretty obviously going to win best picture, so it makes sense that Danny Boyle would win for direction.
Yawn. I recall last year being a little more suspenseful.

Will I be dead and gone before the Academy can actually get free of agenda’s and select award worthy work by it’s deserving efforts and not by Hollywood’s emotional preferences. Sean Penn, take a deep breath, keep acting because you do have a gift, but please leave your personal emotions where they belong. We tune in because of how well people in your industry act not because of what you think. Try not to take it too personal, Sean.

Well, it’s his win. I think the winners can (and obviously do) choose how they want to use their allotted time. “Statement” speeches have been done before.
